My name is Ryan Johnson, and I am the proud owner and head instructor of, The Skating Treadmill, a dream project that combines my lifelong passion for hockey with my commitment to the Barrie community. Having called Barrie home for over 25 years, this city holds a special place in my heart.
Before pursuing my dream of opening a hockey training facility, I served as a Police Officer with the Toronto Police. Transitioning from law enforcement to entrepreneurship has been an exciting journey, driven by my love for the sport and my desire to contribute to the development of young hockey talent.
My hockey journey began in Barrie, where I played minor hockey and was drafted to the Peterborough Petes in the OHL. I enjoyed a fulfilling five-year Junior A career in the OJHL before moving on to play at Brockport University in the NCAA. After my playing career ended, I dedicated myself to skill development and coaching, gaining over a decade of experience. I coached the Barrie AAA 2007-born team for five years, guiding them through their draft year and seeing ten players drafted to the OHL from our program. Following that, I served as the Video Coach for the Mississauga Steelheads in the OHL and am currently the Assistant Coach for the Collingwood Blues Jr A Hockey Team, the National Champions.
Currently, I own Gateway Hockey Development, which serves as the development hub for The Skating Treadmill. I am thrilled to bring this exciting venture to the beautiful city of Barrie and look forward to welcoming the community to our new facility soon!!
I am Hockey Canada High Performance Certified, and Development 1 & 2 Certified.
